Google AI Mode now books restaurant tables: what it means for you

Google AI Mode now books restaurant tables: what it means for you

Since April 2026, people in the UK can book a restaurant table straight from Google's AI Mode. They describe what they want, for example “a table for four tonight near Soho that does vegan options”, and Google's AI suggests restaurants with available times and a link to book.

How it works

Google pulls live availability from booking partners. At UK launch these were TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary, Mozrest, Foodhub, Dojo, DesignMyNight and OpenTable. If you take bookings through one of them, your restaurant can show up with bookable times.

What it means for your restaurant

  • Your booking platform matters. If yours isn't connected to Google, you can't be booked this way. Check with your provider.
  • Your Google Business Profile matters even more. Google's AI uses your categories, hours, photos, menu and reviews to decide whether you fit the request.
  • Details win the match. Requests are specific: vegan options, outdoor seating, good for groups, kids welcome. If your profile and website don't say it, Google's AI can't match you to it.
  • Reviews do the selling. Recent, detailed reviews help Google's AI describe you and help diners choose you.

What to do now

  1. Confirm your booking system is connected to Google and the booking link on your profile works.
  2. Fill in every relevant attribute on your Google Business Profile.
  3. Put your menu, dietary options and key facts on your website as text, not just a PDF.
  4. Ask for reviews every week and reply to them.
  5. Search for your restaurant in AI Mode the way a customer would, and see what comes up.
